A Differential Measurement of Circumstellar Extinction for AA Tau’s 2011 Dimming Event*

چکیده

Abstract AA Tau is a classical T Tauri star with highly inclined, warped circumstellar disk. For decades, exhibited photometric and spectroscopic variabilities that were successfully modeled as occultations of the primary by material. In 2011, entered an extended faint state, presumably due to enhanced levels dust. We use two sets contemporaneous optical–near-IR (NIR) spectra Tau, obtained in 2008 2014 December, directly measure wavelength-dependent extinction associated dust enhancement driving Tau’s 2011 optical fade. Taken alone, apparent optical–NIR increased curve cannot be fit well standard laws. At wavelengths, dimming event consistent predictions common models for increase A V = 2, but no such model reproduces color–color excess at NIR wavelengths. show veiling emission accounts anomalous extinction: after including this flux, 2 law across full range. also report mid-IR flux since its fade suggest height inner disk most likely explanation both IR brightening additional along line sight. addition informing our understanding analysis demonstrates caution should exercised when inferring (and stellar parameters) from young stars measurable fluxes.

The Circumstellar Extinction of Planetary Nebulae

We analyze the dependence of circumstellar extinction on core mass for the brightest planetary nebulae (PNe) in the Magellanic Clouds and M31. We show that in all three galaxies, a statistically significant correlation exists between the two quantities, such that high core mass objects have greater extinction. We model this behavior, and show that the relation is a simple consequence of the gre...

investigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures

deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...

The light curve of the semiregular variable L2 Puppis: I. A recent dimming event from dust

The nearby Mira-like variable L2 Pup is shown to be undergoing an unprecedented dimming episode. The stability of the period rules out intrinsic changes to the star, leaving dust formation along the line of sight as the most likely explanation. Episodic dust obscuration events are fairly common in carbon stars but have not been seen in oxygen-rich stars. We also present a 10-μm spectrum, taken ...

Dimming and Co Absorption toward the Aa Tau Protoplanetary Disk: an Infalling Flow Caused by Disk Instability?

AA Tau, a classical T Tauri star in the Taurus cloud, has been the subject of intensive photometric monitoring for more than two decades due to its quasi-cyclic variation in optical brightness. Beginning in 2011, AA Tau showed another peculiar variation—its median optical though near-IR flux dimmed significantly, a drop consistent with a 4-mag increase in visual extinction. It has stayed in the...
